TAI-O Twin Bridges

Tai O is life close to the water.  Dried fish, houses on stilts, pathways and bridges between, Tai O has a unique lifestyle and heritage - all the more amazing due to its proximity to the glass and steel towers of the city center.  The character of Tai O is iconic with a strong identity, so the principal design was to reflect and connect these identities through the two bridges.  The two bridges complete a loop around the east side of the village while each responds to its unique local conditions.  Fish's Bridge at Po Chue Tam has curving shoreline that is reflected in the bridge's sinuous form as well as a more lively and playful shape.  The Fisherman's Bridge at Yim Tin connects a more defined and rigid water edge.  The footbridge here is straight and purposeful with its rhythm and form echoing the fisherman's cast.
